Range Rover Electric: Range, Specs & Tests

Range Rover has entered a new era. The Range Rover Electric, the first fully electric model in the brand's history, has now been revealed in production form following an extensive development and testing programme.

The new Range Rover Electric retains the distinctive design and character of the existing Range Rover while introducing a dual-motor electric powertrain, a 118.5 kWh battery, an 800-volt electrical architecture and fully electric all-wheel drive.

So, how far can the Range Rover Electric travel on a single charge, how quickly can it recharge, how did it perform during testing, and when could it arrive in Turkey?

What Is the Range Rover Electric?

The Range Rover Electric is the first production Range Rover to feature a fully electric powertrain.

Rather than developing an entirely different SUV, Range Rover has designed the electric version to preserve the luxury, comfort and off-road capability traditionally associated with the Range Rover name while replacing the combustion engine with a fully electric drivetrain.

The philosophy behind the vehicle can therefore be described as “a Range Rover first, an electric vehicle second.” Its overall silhouette, cabin architecture and fundamental design language remain closely related to the combustion-powered Range Rover.

However, several areas, including the front grille, wheels and underbody components, have been redesigned to improve aerodynamic efficiency.

How Powerful Is the Range Rover Electric?

The Range Rover Electric features two 260 kW permanent-magnet electric motors, with one positioned on each axle.

The combined system produces 550 PS and 850 Nm of torque.

Thanks to the instant torque delivery of the electric powertrain, the Range Rover Electric has been developed not only to provide quiet and refined driving but also to maintain the strong performance expected from high-output Range Rover models.

Key performance figures include:

• 550 PS maximum power

• 850 Nm maximum torque

• Two 260 kW electric motors

• Electric all-wheel drive

• Approximately 4.3 seconds from 0-60 mph

Having separate electric motors on the front and rear axles also allows torque to be distributed between the wheels quickly and precisely.

What Is the Range of the Range Rover Electric?

The maximum WLTP range announced for the Range Rover Electric is 372 miles, or approximately 599 kilometres.

However, it is important to distinguish between laboratory-based WLTP figures and the range that drivers may experience in everyday conditions.

Range Rover estimates a real-world driving range of approximately 333 miles, equivalent to around 535 kilometres.

Actual electric range can vary depending on factors including:

• Ambient temperature

• Average driving speed

• Air-conditioning and heating use

• Road gradients

• Wheel and tyre configuration

• Vehicle load

• Driving style

As with all electric vehicles, these factors can significantly influence energy consumption and the distance achievable from a full battery.

How Large Is the Range Rover Electric Battery?

The Range Rover Electric uses a lithium-ion battery with 118.5 kWh of usable capacity.

The battery features a dual-stack construction and contains a total of 344 prismatic cells.

The vehicle is built around an 800-volt electrical architecture. This high-voltage system provides important advantages for DC rapid charging and energy management under high-power driving conditions.

Range Rover has also developed dedicated engineering solutions for the battery and electric drive systems as part of the vehicle's electrification programme.

How Long Does the Range Rover Electric Take to Charge?

One of the major advantages of the 800-volt electrical architecture is its rapid-charging capability.

When connected to a suitable 350 kW DC rapid charger, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 22 minutes under appropriate conditions.

Range Rover also states that approximately 10 minutes of rapid charging can add around 220 kilometres of WLTP driving range.

These charging figures depend on several factors, including battery temperature, state of charge, environmental conditions and whether the charging station can provide the required power.

Can the Range Rover Electric Go Off-Road?

One of the key objectives during development was to ensure that the transition to a fully electric powertrain did not compromise Range Rover's traditional off-road capability.

The electric model therefore features advanced all-wheel-drive and traction-management technologies designed specifically for the characteristics of an electric drivetrain.

The new Integrated Traction Management system can manage torque from the electric motors extremely quickly and respond to changing surface conditions in approximately 50 milliseconds.

This rapid response is one of the major advantages of an electric powertrain compared with conventional mechanical systems, particularly when precise torque control is required on low-grip surfaces.

What Is the Range Rover Electric's Wading Depth?

The Range Rover Electric has a maximum wading depth of up to 900 mm.

This figure demonstrates that the electric model has not been developed exclusively for road use and that preserving Range Rover's traditional all-terrain capability has remained an important engineering objective.

The vehicle also offers a maximum towing capacity of up to 2,500 kg.

A Single Pedal driving function has also been developed to reduce the need for the driver to constantly switch between the accelerator and brake pedals during challenging off-road manoeuvres.

The system is designed to provide precise low-speed vehicle control on steep gradients and difficult terrain.

How Did the Range Rover Electric Perform in Testing?

Before reaching production, the Range Rover Electric underwent one of the most extensive development programmes in Range Rover history.

According to JLR, the vehicle covered more than 1.5 million kilometres during physical testing.

Combined physical and virtual development also involved more than 250,000 hours of testing.

The Range Rover Electric was tested in a wide variety of environments, including:

• Temperatures reaching -40°C in Arjeplog, Sweden

• Extreme heat in Dubai

• The demanding off-road terrain at Eastnor Castle in the UK

• Low-grip ice and snow surfaces

• Challenging off-road environments

• High-speed road driving

These tests evaluated much more than battery range. Traction management, suspension performance, thermal management, charging capability, powertrain durability and ride comfort were also tested under demanding conditions.

How Does the Range Rover Electric Perform in Cold Weather?

Low temperatures can affect both battery efficiency and energy consumption in electric vehicles, particularly when additional energy is required to heat the passenger compartment.

To address this challenge, the Range Rover Electric features an advanced thermal-management system called ThermAssist.

According to Range Rover, ThermAssist can reduce the energy required for heating by up to 40 percent under certain conditions and can contribute approximately 25 miles of additional driving range.

The system also helps maintain the battery within an optimal temperature range, supporting charging performance, battery longevity and overall vehicle performance.

What Suspension Does the Range Rover Electric Use?

The Range Rover Electric uses an advanced air-suspension system designed to preserve the ride comfort for which Range Rover is known.

Its twin-chamber air suspension has been calibrated specifically for the weight distribution and lower centre of gravity created by the electric battery and drivetrain.

The lower centre of gravity associated with the battery installation can also help manage body movement in corners despite the vehicle's large dimensions.

Will Range Rover Electric Maintenance Be Different?

The Range Rover Electric will have different maintenance requirements from a combustion-powered Range Rover.

Components such as engine oil, oil filters and many conventional engine service parts are no longer required by the electric drivetrain. However, this does not mean that the vehicle is maintenance-free.

The braking system, suspension, steering, climate-control system, cooling circuits, tyres, electronic control modules and high-voltage system are among the areas that will still require inspection and maintenance.

The Range Rover Electric also uses Battery Digital Twin technology. The system can monitor more than 900 diagnostic data points related to the battery, providing detailed information about battery condition and performance.

Software Over The Air technology also allows certain software updates and vehicle-system improvements to be carried out remotely.

When Will the Range Rover Electric Go on Sale?

The production version of the Range Rover Electric was officially revealed on 2 September 2026, with orders opening in selected international markets.

The vehicle is produced at the Solihull manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom, a location closely associated with Range Rover production since 1970.

The electric model is available in short- and long-wheelbase body configurations. Depending on the market, different versions can include SE, HSE, Autobiography and SV specifications, together with a special First Edition.
