Land Rover Periodic Maintenance in Maslak: What Should Be Checked?

Regular maintenance of Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles involves much more than simply changing the engine oil and filters. The engine, braking, suspension, cooling, drivetrain and electronic systems should be inspected together. Properly planned Land Rover periodic maintenance helps identify worn components at an early stage and contributes to maintaining safe and reliable vehicle operation.

At our Anil Oto service center in Maslak, Istanbul, the scope of maintenance is determined according to the vehicle's model, model year, engine specification, mileage and operating conditions. Factors such as heavy city traffic, frequent short-distance driving, long-distance travel, heavy loads and off-road use can all affect maintenance requirements.

When Should Land Rover Periodic Maintenance Be Performed?

Maintenance intervals may vary depending on the vehicle model, engine type and operating conditions. The service warning displayed on the instrument panel, the vehicle's maintenance history and the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule should be evaluated together.

Mileage is not the only factor that determines when maintenance is required. Vehicles frequently driven over short distances, left unused for extended periods or operated in heavy traffic may experience time-related deterioration of certain fluids and components even when their mileage is relatively low.

If any of the following symptoms occur, the vehicle may need to be inspected before its scheduled maintenance date:

• A service or engine warning appears on the instrument panel

• Irregular engine operation or loss of performance

• Noise, vibration or a change in pedal feel while braking

• Unusual noises from the steering or suspension

• Fluid marks or visible leaks underneath the vehicle

• A decrease in coolant or engine oil level

Engine Oil and Oil Filter Inspection

Engine oil helps lubricate moving engine components and assists in controlling friction and heat. Oil that has deteriorated over time or fallen below the correct level can negatively affect engine protection.

During maintenance, the engine oil level and condition are checked, oil with the appropriate specification for the vehicle is used, and the oil filter is replaced. If leaks, oil sweating or unusual oil consumption are detected, the source should be investigated rather than simply topping up the oil level.

Air, Cabin and Fuel Filters

The air filter helps prevent dust and foreign particles from entering the engine. A dirty air filter may restrict airflow and can affect engine performance and fuel consumption.

The cabin filter helps filter the air entering the passenger compartment. A clogged filter can reduce ventilation performance, cause unpleasant odors and restrict airflow from the vents even when the climate control system is operating.

The fuel filter helps prevent contaminants in the fuel system from reaching the engine. Replacement requirements should be determined according to the vehicle's engine specification and maintenance schedule.

Cooling System, Hoses and Belts

The cooling system helps maintain the engine within its correct operating temperature range. During maintenance, the coolant level and condition, radiator and expansion tank area, hose connections and any visible signs of leakage should be inspected.

Hardening, swelling, cracking or leakage around radiator hoses and their connections may eventually result in coolant loss. The condition, tension and operating noise of the auxiliary drive belt and related components should also be evaluated.

Brake System Inspection

Because of the weight and operating characteristics of Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles, the braking system should be inspected regularly. Brake pad thickness, brake disc condition, brake fluid, hoses and any visible signs of leakage should be included in the inspection.

If metallic noises, vibration through the steering wheel or brake pedal, pulling to one side or a noticeable change in braking performance occurs, the vehicle should be inspected without waiting for the next scheduled maintenance service.

Suspension and Undercarriage Inspection

The suspension system affects not only ride comfort but also vehicle handling and proper tire contact with the road. During maintenance, shock absorbers, control arms, bushings, steering and suspension links, and the general operation of the system on air-suspension-equipped models should be inspected.

Knocking noises over speed bumps, rattling on uneven roads, the vehicle leaning to one side, suspension height warnings or uneven tire wear may indicate that the suspension and undercarriage require further inspection.

For more information about our suspension and undercarriage services, visit our Land Rover suspension system maintenance page.

Battery, Charging System and Electronic Diagnostics

Modern Land Rover and Range Rover models contain numerous electronic control modules. Low battery voltage or a charging system problem can sometimes cause several seemingly unrelated warning messages to appear.

During periodic maintenance, the general condition of the battery, its connections and the charging system can be inspected. Scanning the vehicle for stored fault codes may also help identify intermittent problems that the driver has not yet noticed.

For more information about computerized diagnostics, visit our Land Rover electromechanical and diagnostic inspection page.

Transmission and Drivetrain

The inspection and replacement requirements for fluids used in the transmission, transfer case and differential systems should be evaluated according to the vehicle model and its maintenance history. If fluid leaks, unusual noises, vibration, harsh gear changes or delayed engagement are present, a more detailed inspection should be performed.

When determining the required work on these systems, the vehicle's previous maintenance records and operating conditions should be considered alongside mileage.

Tire Condition and Tire Pressure

Tire tread depth, manufacturing date, surface cracks, uneven wear and tire pressures should all be checked. Noticeable wear on the inner or outer edge of a tire may indicate the need to inspect wheel alignment, suspension or undercarriage components.

After off-road use, it is also advisable to inspect the tires for cuts, impact damage and sidewall damage.

What Should Be Checked on Land Rover Vehicles Over Five Years Old?

For vehicles over five years old, maintenance should not be limited to standard oil and filter replacement. Components that deteriorate over time should also be evaluated. Rubber hoses, seals, bushings, belts, batteries, fluids and connection points can age regardless of mileage.

If the maintenance history of a vehicle is unknown, assessing its current condition and creating a future maintenance plan can make it easier to monitor and schedule the work required over time.

Choosing the Correct Parts for Maintenance

When filters, belts, hoses, brake components or suspension parts need to be replaced, compatibility should be verified using the vehicle model, model year, engine specification and VIN. Different components may be used within the same model depending on production date or equipment specification.

Selecting the correct parts helps reduce compatibility problems during installation, unnecessary delays and unnecessary component replacement.
