Jaguar Type 01: The New Electric Jaguar
Jaguar Type 01 made its world premiere in New York on 6 October 2026. It is a fully electric four-door luxury GT, the production expression of the design direction previewed by the Type 00 concept, and the first production model of Jaguar’s new generation.
What does the Type 01 name mean?
“Type” references iconic Jaguars from the brand’s past. “0” signifies zero tailpipe emissions and “1” identifies the first model of a new generation. Type 00 was a design-vision concept; Type 01 is the production car intended for customers.
Design and body
Type 01 is a four-door GT with a long bonnet, low roofline, sleek silhouette and dramatic proportions. Jaguar describes it as the brand’s most aerodynamic road car to date. Inside, a central spine divides the cabin into four individual spaces.
A new electric platform
The car is based on Jaguar Electric Architecture, a platform developed specifically for electric Jaguars. The dedicated architecture allows the design proportions, cabin, vehicle dynamics and battery installation to be planned around an electric powertrain from the outset.
Power and charging
Jaguar states that Type 01 produces more than 1,000 PS. Its 850-volt electrical architecture supports charging at up to 350 kW, with a claim of adding up to 200 miles of range in 13 minutes under suitable conditions. Results depend on charger output, battery temperature and state of charge.
Range
The announced figure is up to 400 miles on the EPA cycle. EPA and WLTP are different test procedures and their results should not be treated as directly interchangeable. Real-world range will also vary with speed, temperature, route, payload, wheel and tyre selection, and climate-control use.
Orders and deliveries
Jaguar plans to open orders in early 2027, with first client deliveries expected in the second half of 2027. UK pricing is stated to start at £130,000. Pricing, specification and launch timing for other markets will require separate confirmation.
What changes for maintenance?
Engine oil, spark plugs and exhaust-system service items disappear, while the high-voltage battery, electric motors, inverter, thermal management, charging system, software, tyres, brakes and suspension become central service areas. Accurate electronic diagnosis and high-voltage safety will be essential.
Why Type 01 matters
Type 01 is more than a new electric Jaguar. It is the first production evidence of the brand’s repositioned design, pricing and product strategy. Final homologation data and market specifications may differ, so local technical information should guide any purchase decision.
