2024 Defender Seat Belt Recall: What Does Campaign D130 Cover?

The new Defender seat belt stitching recall is a reason for owners to have their VIN checked. The model name or registration year alone is not enough to establish whether a vehicle is included. Production details, the fitted component and the individual vehicle's campaign status are what matter.

What is campaign D130?

JLR reported campaign 26V615, manufacturer reference D130, on September 24, 2026. NHTSA issued its acknowledgement letter on September 29. The concern is potentially incorrect stitching in the second-row seat belt of certain 2024 model-year Defender vehicles. A belt with incorrect stitching may not restrain an occupant properly in a collision, increasing the risk of injury.

The US filing covers 371 vehicles built at the Nitra plant between January 31 and February 2, 2024. This is not a figure for Türkiye, and it does not mean that all 2024 Defenders have defective belts.

What does the inspection involve?

The campaign calls for the second-row belt's serial number to be inspected. A belt from the identified production batch is to be replaced. The US campaign describes the inspection and any necessary replacement as free of charge.

The filing schedules dealer notification for October 8, 2026, with interim owner letters planned by November 20. Availability of the final remedy should be confirmed for the individual vehicle.

What should a Defender owner in Türkiye do?

Prepare the 17-character VIN from your registration documents and ask an authorised Land Rover service centre whether campaign D130 or another open action applies to your vehicle. Requesting written confirmation of coverage, the required procedure and appointment availability helps maintain a clear service record. US notification dates are not a Turkish service timetable.

If you are buying a used Defender, do not rely solely on a statement that “the recall has been completed”. Check which campaign the record refers to, when the work was completed and whether the VIN matches the vehicle you are considering.

Is a visual check sufficient?

A belt that looks intact does not prove that the campaign inspection has been completed. Do not remove the belt or attempt to repair or reinforce its stitching.

If you see damage, opened stitching or fraying, do not use the affected belt. Contact a service centre before carrying a passenger in that position. The presence of a child seat does not make a seat belt defect unimportant.
